Nitrogen management in agriculture has been a focus of litigation and regulation in recent years, including legal action regarding the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), and the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).
